5 minutes with… Kitchen Talk and Travels

Each week we are going to be introducing you to some of our lovely bloggers across our TripsTotsFoodies and HIBS community sites. Our next blog here on Foodies is Kitchen Talk and Travels – why not settle down with a cuppa and share 5 minutes with Heidi…

Describe your blog in 10 words or less

Kitchen Talk and Travels features my passions for food, travel and culture

How and when did you start blogging?

I started blogging about six and a half years ago never really expecting anyone to read it but felt I had to write things down. It has gone from strength to strength and earlier this year I took a bold step, changed the name of the blog and went self hosted. It was a struggle at first to learn a new blogging platform but I am happy that I am learning as I go.

What’s your favourite thing about your day job?

My day job is currently my blog and my favourite thing is setting my own schedule whether it is spending the day baking, cooking, trying new products, working on the blog or just walking the dog!

The last thing I ate was…

BBQ chicken from a street food vendor in St Kitts.

My dream travel destination would be…

Visiting the island of Exuma in the Bahamas to swim with the pigs.

My favourite place on earth is…

The Caribbean island of Grenada – this is my true happy place. I love the weather, the people, the food, the beaches, the rum and the chocolate!

My personal style is best described as…

Casual – I wear what I like and don’t worry about fashion. I do however love my bright red nail polish and lipstick!

I can’t wake up without…

Coffee – my husband brings me my coffee in bed each morning.

The place I feel happiest is…

The Caribbean, and it would only be better if my children and grandchildren could be there with me.

My friends would describe me as…

Funny with a sarcastic sense of humour but very loyal and a good friend.

My party trick is…

Providing a table full of food and looking like it was no big deal – doesn’t everyone cook this much when they day come for a simple supper!

What motivates me is…

Feeding my family and friends. I am a feeder. Not only do you not go home hungry from my house but you will be given containers to take home some. There is always room for one more at our table!

In 5 Years Time you’ll find me…

Travelling but hopefully taking my grandchildren with me – travelling and eating in a different country is the best way to learn about the world around us and also a privilege to share food with local people, eating their food and telling them about yours. In 5 years time I would also like to be presenting a travel program.

A big thank you to Heidi for spending 5 minutes with us. You can find her blog at Kitchen Talk and Travels, or follow her on Instagram or Twitter.

So You Know...

As you've likely heard and seen, there's an increasing focus on the authenticity of follower growth and engagement on social platforms across the Influencer Marketing community. The platforms themselves have taken measures to deter inauthentic activity and brands now more closely scrutinise the audiences of the influencers with whom they are partnering.

The Flea Network has implemented a system that will detect abnormal spikes in following and engagement, and flag these properties. Of course, such spikes can often be attributed to viral posts or high-profile brands that bring greater exposure to some content.

If one of your social accounts is flagged by our system without an obvious reason, we may reach out to you for assistance in understanding it. If we find any influencer has artificially inflated their audience size or engagement using paid acquisition or automated, third-party tools, we will remove them permanently from our influencer community.

Feel free to reach out to us at bloggers@fleaenterprises.com with any questions or comments.

Thank you!

The Flea Network Team
