Today, we’re spending five minutes with UK food blogger Craig, who blogs about quick food for busy lifestyles at The Usual Saucepans.
Craig launched The Usual Saucepans in 2012, but it wasn’t until five years later that he started blogging seriously. “In late 2017, I started being more consistent and start blogging properly,” he says. “A lot of the time it was about sharing food I was making for myself, like a fun recipe journal. More recently though it’s started to focus on food that fits around our busy schedules.”
Want to know a bit more about Craig? We asked him the important questions:
I love my day job because…
I work as a marketing manager for a university. The best thing is the variety. I could be working on a campaign in Singapore one moment and a schools outreach the next. Having said that, there’s nothing better than getting a call from someone who has just discovered they have an offer to study with us.
My dream travel destination is…
The more places I see in the world the harder this question gets. I’d love to go on a trip to Patagonia, and hope over to Antarctica. My favourite place on earth is the Savannah. I am a biologist by education, and when I got to on safari in Tanzania, I was in paradise.
My personal style is best described as…?
Oh, the latest and greatest the fashion world has to offer. Just joking. It’s very heavy on the jeans and t-shirt look.
I can’t wake up without…
about six alarms.
The place I feel happiest is…
The kitchen. It’s my happy place. I absolutely love having people over for dinner, a party or just for coffee. But the time being spent cooking and baking in the run-up is the golden time in my kitchen.
My friends would describe me as
One of my friends recently introduced me as “This is Craig, he’s broody for puppies”, which is about right. Otherwise it’s usually ‘sarcastic’, ‘never shuts up’, and ‘constantly eating or talking about food’.
My party trick is…
I’ve an astonishing habit of being able to make little nibbles vanish into thin air…
What motivates me is…
I’ve always been quite competitive, but usually it’s with myself. So normally my motivation is to do better than I did last time or to see just how far I can push myself.
In five years’ time you’ll find me
Lounging on a beach with a caipirinha in hand, probably somewhere in the Caribbean. Failing that, probably in my kitchen!
